Swinging: The New Sexual Lifestyle

Some people are still wondering how the swinging lifestyle started. I was curious myself so I ran a quick research on how this lifestyle started and found some interesting facts. Swinging may be considered to be the new sexual lifestyle in the modern days, but it is really not that new at all. It is indeed a new and exciting, rather avant-garde, sexual lifestyle that heterosexual couples and accepting adults enjoy so much these days, and it is obviously gaining more and more popularity, but swinging actually dated back to the 16th century.

According to Wikipedia, a formal arrangement was signed by John Dee, his wife Jane, Dee’s personal fortune teller, Edward Kelley and Kelley’s wife Joanna on 22 April 1587 to ratify swapping sexual partners. This arrangement created a scene of its own, and more people are creating the same formal agreement of their own. In the 17th century, swapping wives (temporarily) are common practice among occults in most part of Europe.

The lifestyle became widely known and commonly practiced in the 20th century. Of course, at the beginning of its rapid growth, swinging is considered a taboo and is kept as a personal secret. Several years later, personal ads and swinging clubs became quite common as more people see swinging as a new sexual lifestyle they are highly attracted to. Pros and cons are always part of a culture’s journey, and the same goes for swinging. For various reasons including health objections and religions, some people are against swinging till the present day.

Nevertheless, swinging is indeed an attractive and intriguing new lifestyle that are being enjoyed by a large amount of people around the world. I’m sure it will continue to grow as more people open their minds widely to new things, and more new swingers are to be expected.
